Job Definition

Performs various duties commensurate with knowledge, experience, skills, and certification in the operation, maintenance, construction, and storekeeping of the District's water systems.

Distinguishing Characteristics

 

Incumbents in this classification assigned to the Lake Stevens Water Operations headquarters are required to establish their residence so they will be able to report to work within thirty (30) minutes after being called.

Essential Job Functions

Under the direction of the Water Foreman and Water Distribution Specialists, performs a wide variety of duties to assist in the operation, maintenance, construction, and storekeeping of the District's water systems.  May work independently to perform basic duties such as manual labor, meter reading, setting, replacement, etc., traffic control, valve operating, hydrant painting, brushing, flushing, water facility maintenance, etc.  Water Workers at Level 3 and above may perform standby duties as assigned.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience/Education

Level 1: Washington State certification as a Water Distribution Specialist - In Training, Water Distribution Manager - In Training, Water Treatment Plant Operator - In Training, or Cross Connection Control Specialist I.

Level 2: Six months experience at Level 1.

Level 3: Six months experience at Level 2.

Level 4: Six months experience at Level 3 plus successful passage of the basic knowledge training module.  After six months at Level 4, employee will automatically progress to Level 1 Water Distribution Specialist.  Level 3 employees who do not pass the basic knowledge training module within six months of obtaining Level 3 will be laid off.

General Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable state safety requirements.
  • Appropriate Washington State certification.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain first aid, CPR, flagging cards, and asbestos cement pipe certification within three months.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed at various locations, in all types of weather conditions and in confined spaces such as trenches, vaults, or reservoir.
• Must be able to lift 110 pounds and climb a seventy foot ladder to perform inspections.
