Job Definition

The Systems Administration Engineer I manages servers, workstations, storage, cloud infrastructure, operating systems, and applications. This position is accountable for implementation of new systems, maintenance of existing systems including any necessary system enhancements, and their decommissioning. This role will assist with the identification, prioritization, and resolution of critical infrastructure and security related issues that impact business operations. This position safeguards the recoverability, performance, compliance, and security of District infrastructure and is key to ensuring that the information systems necessary to fulfill the District's mission are highly available.

The initial primary role for this position is Inventory Manager with a job title of Sys Admin I. The primary focus for this position will initially be to create and maintain Inventory controls for Small and Attractive Assets. This includes, laptops, desktops, iPhone, iPads, and Macbooks. It will also include the tracking of equipment taken home for remote and hybrid workers which includes Monitors, Docking stations and printers.  ITS has procured a new Asset Management tool called SNIPE-IT and is working towards completing a thorough inventory of all assets and assignments to populate it.  
 

Experience/Education

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field;

OR

• Four (4) years of related Information Technology experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this role are as follows: 

• Inventory Managment 
• Create / improve and maintain new processes for onboarding and offboarding of equipment that all End User Support staff will adhere to 
• Surplus IOS devices quarterly 
• Surplus Windows and peripherals quarterly 
• Onboard new users 2x weekly 
• Follow up with managers for equipment returns 
• Complete monthly, quarterly spot checks and manage annual inventories 
• Storage rooms are audited monthly 
• Employees working from home will be audited annually 
• Verizon and TMobile accounts will be audited quarterly 
• Onsite equipment will be inventoried annually with the assistance of summer students 
• Apple Business Manager and AutoPilot will be audited monthly 

Other System Administration duties: 

• Provide backup support for the helpdesk for urgent needs 
• Tier 2/3 support for escalations 
• Shared Hardware related tasks such as moves, large facilities projects or procurement of new hardware 
• Facilities AV back up support 
• Shared Administrative support of Exchange, Intune, SCCM, Licensing, Active Directory and Entra 
• Scripting for large data comparisons and PowerShell use 
• Project participant for equipment or role related items
