Job Definition
Are you looking for a unique opportunity to gain valuable "real world" work experience? Snohomish County PUD offers challenging projects with access to experienced professionals and resources along with the satisfaction of knowing you've made a difference.
“Energizing Life in Our Communities” isn’t just a statement on our mission to deliver vital services to the communities we serve. We are governed by elected community members, most of us live in our service territory, and many of us are life-long residents. We deliver services that our neighbors rely on for their quality of life – whether it’s safe water to drink, heat and light to keep them warm and safe, or energy to power businesses fueling our local economy.
The Power Supply Department is responsible for planning for and managing the electricity and transmission used to serve Snohomish PUD customers. This includes long-term planning, contract negotiation and management, policy work, and regulatory planning and reporting on clean energy and carbon requirements. The PUD is proud to have a clean and affordable supply of electricity to serve customers with, and as the region anticipates more electrification of vehicles and other uses, the Power Supply Department is instrumental in charting a path forward that continues this legacy.
The Power Supply Department will be busy in 2025! We are transitioning core elements of our transmission and power portfolios while developing a new long-term power plan and assessing resource acquisition for the future. This position will be tasked with research and analysis of components of these efforts, with the support of experienced PUD staff. This is a great opportunity for a candidate interested in clean energy, financial planning and analysis, the operation of the regional grid, and understanding the economics of the electricity sector. Successful candidates should be comfortable with economic concepts, researching emerging technologies, and working in cross-disciplinary teams. Preferred candidates will have some familiarity with the electricity sector, clean energy or carbon policy in Washington State, or utility planning. This position may be a good fit for students in their Junior or Senior years of academic programs related to economics, public policy, engineering, or related fields.
