Job Title

Job Definition

Successfully provide technical, engineering, and project management services related to the design, maintenance, operations, improvements of and additions to the District’s facilities and systems in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable the District to realize its goals and objectives. Performs as project leader on assigned projects and tasks.


The Automation Engineer at the District serves as the central point of contact for connecting data from outstations to the various systems which enable monitoring and control of the District's electrical system.  Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and refining processes and workflows used to generate data concentrator configuration files, develop SCADA and data historian point lists, and manage relay engineering access system setup.


Required qualifications include the ability to lead collaborative cross-functional teams to support timely delivery of configurations and data.  Excellent troubleshooting skills and strong communication and organizational skills are a must.
The ideal candidate will have experience with SEL Real-Time Automation Controllers and with relay event file retrieval and archival systems as well as familiarity with electric utility systems and their operation, including transmission, substations, and distribution.  

Desired qualifications include a working understanding of SCADA systems including point types and their attributes, familiarity with DNP 3 communication protocol, operational and non-operational data reporting requirements, and transport systems.

Experience/Education

Engineer II - $74,604 to $124,342 Annually 

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or related field, AND
  • Two (2) years of related engineering experience.

OR

  • Six (6) years of directly related engineering experience.

 

Preferred Licenses(s) and/or Certifications(s):

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. .

 

Engineer III - $124,799 to $155,975 Annually 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field, AND
  • Four (4) years of related engineering experience;

OR

  • Eight (8) years of directly related engineering experience and a Washington State Professional Engineering License (PE) in-lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

 

Professional Engineer - $156,523 to $195,655 Annually  

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field, AND
  • Six (6) years of related engineering experience.

OR

  • Ten (10) years of directly related engineering experience 

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

 

Principal Engineer - $175,306 to $219,134 Annually  

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field, AND
  • Eight (8) years of related engineering experience.

OR

  • Twelve (12) years of directly related engineering experience 

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
