Job Definition
Successfully learn and perform basic technical work related to the design, maintenance, operations, improvements of and additions to the District’s electric system in a safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable the District to realize its goals and objectives. Performs assignments that utilize readily available procedures and standards. Assists project leaders on assigned projects and tasks.
Distinguishing Characteristics
DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Supervisor or Team leader screen assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work. Receives close direction and review on all aspects of assignments. Receives training on District standards, practices, and procedures. Manages time to work concurrently on multiple assignments.
Essential Job Functions
Develops an understanding of basic utility standards/practices through use of pre-established standards, practices and procedures on assigned tasks by assisting with such things as layout, locating, small line extensions, substation and structural modifications.
Researches engineering field data and assists in developing solutions to simple to complex design problems by using engineering software.
Inspects new construction and existing facilities for maintenance, modifications or improvements and provides construction recommendations to correct identified deficiencies.
Assists and/or prepares estimates including establishing material requirements from engineering drawings/sketches, detailed project schedules for labor, equipment, and material resources.
Effectively performs assigned projects and tasks of a limited scope involving basic design principles used at the District, simple calculations, and use of pre-established standards.
Collects, correlates and analyzes data on assigned projects and tasks and assists in the preparation of findings.
Assists and/or prepares revisions to equipment specifications, material specifications, and/or contract specifications using pre-established standards and practices.
Responds to and investigates customer inquiries, questions and complaints; provides information concerning services, programs, projects, policies and objectives. Seeks assistance in interpreting policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience/Education
- Associate of Arts Degree in an Engineering related field.
OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent; and,
- Two (2) years related engineering, business or marketing experience or applicable technical education.
Note re Minimum Qualifications: For the employee who has met the minimum entry education and experience requirements, the additional time required to be proficient in performing the job is six months to one year.
