Basic Responsibilities

We are looking for 4 Time-Limited workers to assist the Generation crew with vegetation management and routine site maintenance (e.g. site maintenance, site cleanup, painting, brush cutting, mowing, removing fallen trees). All duties will be given under the direction of the Generation Utility Worker or Superintendent. Use of hand tools and power tools will be required. This job also requires standing for long periods of time, working on uneven terrain, and the ability to lift up to 65 lbs. Daily reporting location is in Sultan, WA.

Job Definition

Performs routine maintenance and repair and observes the condition of the physical facilities, surrounding grounds and equipment at the Jackson Hydroelectric Project and recreation sites.  Responds to the public in a courteous and efficient manner.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This position is a step progression position with time requirements.  

Essential Job Functions
  1. Polices District property and facilities for debris, refuse, etc. which has been left by the public.  Performs removal of debris as needed in order to maintain the appearance of the Hydroelectric project.  Keeps grounds free of debris such as leaves and garbage.
  2. Repairs minor physical damage to facilities and related items including, but not limited to, painting, restoring fences and road gates, restroom doors, picnic tables, etc.
  3. Cleans and unplugs ditches and culverts.  Empties trash at recreation sites.  Clears downed trees and limbs on Hydroelectric Project roadways using a chainsaw and vehicle mounted winch.
  4. Observes condition of operating equipment such as diesel electric generator and adds oil if necessary.  Performs walk through of powerhouse looking for abnormal conditions.
  5. Maintains easements and rights-of-way at Hydroelectric Project using tractor mounted mower and articulated boom arm to mow and cut away grass, small trees, limbs and brush.  Maintains tractor, mounted mower and boom arm, performing maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
  6. Responds to public inquires including such items as directions, use of recreation site, etc. in a courteous manner.  Advises public of watershed usage rules and regulations.  Reports violators to supervisor or appropriate law enforcement agency.
  7. Assists various Jackson Hydroelectric staff with associated duties as assigned.
  8. Performs landscaping duties around Hydroelectric Project including, but not limited to, mowing, edging, weed eating, hauling and laying beauty bark, gravel, sand, etc, falling trees, operating chain saw and other associated equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
• Basic hand tools and their appropriate use.
• Operation of tractor mower and associated parts.
• Chain saw operation.
Ability to:
• Use tools and equipment of the trade.
• Operate tractor mower and associated equipment.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Work independently.
• Use proper radio procedures with District Dispatchers and Powerhouse staff.
• Understand and follow directions.
• Communicate effectively with co-workers, various agencies and the general public.
• Demonstrate mechanical ability.
• Physically perform duties of the job.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Washington State Driver License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools and their use.
  • Ability to work independently, outdoors in varying weather conditions, and physically perform duties of the job.
Working Conditions
• Duties are performed in a variety of environments both indoors and outdoors and in remote and rugged wilderness areas.
• Work is physical in nature.
• Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials in excess of 65 lbs.
• Must be able to operate hazardous equipment such as a chain saw to fall trees.
• Frequent walking is required to inspect basin and projects.
• Work is performed independently and alone, with infrequent face-to-face contact with other employees, and may only have contact with District staff via radio.
• Incumbent is exposed to varying weather conditions and may be exposed to wild animals.
