Job Definition

Oversees the design, installation, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of District network infrastructure.  Designs and administers security on infrastructure platforms.  Recommends new hardware and software solutions.  Provides customer service to internal customers and teammates by providing guidance and support on various network related topics.

Distinguishing Characteristics


Essential Job Functions

Analyzes, designs, implements, monitors, and maintains District network infrastructure and performance.


Designs and administers security on system infrastructure platforms.


Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves complex network problems and provides advance standard support and maintenance of District network infrastructure.


Evaluates and recommends new hardware and software products that will enhance the District’s infrastructure reliability and efficiency.


Coordinates maintenance and repair between vendor and District maintenance resources.


Performs cost benefit analysis of proposals for the District’s infrastructure platforms.


Serves as the technical lead and consultant for small to moderate projects and teams.


Develops and maintains accurate documentation.


Follows and assists in the development of policies, procedures, standards and methodologies with Information Technology Services and the District.  Applies security and quality assurance standards and best practices.


Coaches, mentors, and provides training to other Information Technology staff by providing guidance on various related topics.

Performs the duties of Infrastructure Analyst as needed.


Serves as project manager for small to medium projects as needed.


Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/skills with:

  • Installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various network hardware and software solutions (to name some of these solutions: Juniper, Cisco, A10, FireEye, ELK, Pulse Secure, Fortinet, BGP.)
  • Network security best practices (e.g. network segmentation, firewall configurations, etc.)
  • Problem identification and analysis techniques.
  • Coaching and consulting techniques.
  • Project management principles, practices, and philosophies.
  • Business writing concepts.
  • Cost benefit analysis.
  • Customer service practices and principles.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or related field, and
  • Five (5) years progressively more responsible experience working with computer system infrastructures.


• Valid Washington State Driver License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cisco and/or Juniper certification(s).
  • Experience with the following technologies; A10, FireEye, ELK, Pulse Secure, Fortinet, BGP
  • Scripting or coding experience
  • Experience with compliance standards (PCI, NERC-CIP, HIPAA)

Working Conditions

• Duties performed in an office environment and require the extensive repetitive use of a computer keyboard & mouse.

• Incumbent is required to crawl under desks to connect network cable and power connections in a workspace or rack mounted enclosure and have the abililty to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

• Travel to other District offices and meetings are required.

• 24/7 pager duty is required.
